The starter motor is simply an electric motor that engages with the internal combustion engine to start it up. It’s designed to last for tens of thousands of starts. However, over time, wear on the brushes and frequent use of low-voltage batteries can cause it to overheat. This can damage the internal windings, weakening the magnetic field needed for rotation and increasing the electrical current, eventually leading to the motor’s failure.
